The catches consisted almost entirely of cod (size range 20 to 100 cm), haddock (size range 12 to 80 cm) and redfish (size range 10 to 55 cm).

At the end of the trip a call was made at Klakksvig and two disabled British seamen were taken on board for passage to Aberdeen, which was reached at 0900 hours on the 27th.

Explorer sailed from Greenock at 1300 hours on 4th September and after fuelling proceeded to Rockall Bank.

After three days, work with the mid-water trawl was concluded because of damage to the net, and the ship steamed to the shallower ground off St.Kilda.

Fishing began at a position to the northwest of Ireland on 21st June and the survey was continued northwards along the edge of the continental shelf

A course was then set for the "Anthon Dohrn" Bank between St. Kilda and Rockall and the ship worked an intensive grid of the area.

Weather was good and 29 stations were completed by the morning of 1st September when one of the crew fell sick.

"Explorer" sailed from Aberdeen on Sautrday 28th May and the survey was begun at station 14 off the Butt of Lewis on Sunday 29th May.

By the time Cape Wrath was reached it was clearly too rough for work and shelter was sought off Tolsta.
